Get to know Dr. Prasanna Jayatilake

Dr. Prasanna Jayatilake is a distinguished Counselling Psychologist, Mindfulness Teacher, Corporate Trainer, and Lecturer with over 30 years of experience. He is the Managing Director of Global Minds Institute of Psychological Studies & Research (Pvt) Ltd. and the President of Sithbo – The Centre for the Science of Living, both of which are committed to advancing mental well-being through education, research, and therapeutic interventions.

Dr. Jayatilake holds a PhD in Mindfulness Counselling Psychology, with research focused on refining and applying Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for stress reduction and mental health improvement. His academic background includes an MSc in Applied Psychology (United Kingdom), an MA in Philosophy, a BSc in Biology, and multiple diplomas and certifications in counselling and psychology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jayatilake has held leadership roles, including Deputy Director (Counselling) at the Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka, where he successfully transformed the Alokaya Counselling Centre into an even greater success. He has also served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Colombo, Kelaniya and other prominent institutions, contributing to the development of future professionals in the field. 

Dr. Jayatilake’s expertise spans various areas of counselling, including marital, educational, family, and career counselling. He is also recognized as a trainer and consultant across multiple sectors, helping organizations and individuals enhance their psychological well-being. In addition, Dr. Jayatilake is an active content creator, sharing valuable insights on mindfulness, personal development, and mental health through his YouTube channel. Through his extensive work, Dr. Jayatilake continues to make significant contributions to the fields of counselling psychology and mindfulness, guiding individuals and organizations toward a healthier, more mindful future.

1995 – 1998

Educator / Counsellor SOS Children’s Villages of Sri Lanka. Provided counselling and educational support to children and families.

1999 – 2004

Consultant Counsellor at The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka. Delivered counselling services and supported family planning initiatives.

2005 – 2008

Assistant Director (Counselling) at The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka. Assisted in managing counseling programs and team coordination.

2009 – 2014

Deputy Director (Counselling) at The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka. Directed counselling services and led program development.

2014 – Present
